The Moroccan National Tourist Office and the American airline United Airlines have signed an agreement to launch a direct air service between New York and Marrakech. This is the first air link from the United States to Morocco operated by an American airline. Excellent news for the Ochre city.
From October 2024, the overhead line New York - Marrakech will be carried out 3 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdayby a 167-seat Boeing 767-300 configured with United's award-winning Polaris, Premium Plus business and Premium Economy cabins. This route will consolidate Morocco's position as a destination in the U.S. market, which accounts for some 81 million travelers.
With the launch of this direct line, United Airlines is the only American airline to offer direct flights to a North African country. And thanks to this new air route, the ONMT will connect Marrakech to 2 major North American hubs in 2024: Montreal from June with Air Transat and New York from October with United Airlines.
"This historic announcement is a vote of confidence in Morocco as a destination, and reinforces our strategy of promotion in the American market. We are proud to be the first destination in North Africa to be served by one of America's leading airlines. The strike force of this airline, world leader in terms of destinations served with over 345 destinations, will enable us to position ourselves further in this Premium market. In 2023, we welcomed 388,000 American tourists. The launch of this historic route brings us a step closer to achieving our medium-term target of one million tourists, and is part of our aggressive action plan to strengthen our presence in this high value-added market", emphasizes Adel El Fakir, Managing Director of the ONMT.
